ancestral moments

the weekend here was hot, hot, hot. lots of time spent indoors with the aircon on. so I got to play with my new photoshop software...fun! one of my aunties recently gave me some photos of my Grandad and his brothers, as well as an old postcard. scanned them in and cleaned up scratches and tears - really impressed with how they look now. what do you think?

a moment to create

listed some new things in both shops yesterday...creations from my week at play. The journals are embellished with the paper fabric I made and some cute watch faces and can be found here and the garlands are in my vintage shop Lily Loves Vintage. I need to list the birdies, xmas trees and hearts yet which I made from vintage fabrics and notions.

jacaranda moments

today is jacaranda thursday. for those of you who don't live in or around grafton or haven't visisted at this time of year, this is the time when all the jacaranda trees flower and the city celebrates. this year is the 75th anniversary of the festival. today is the highlight of the festival when the shops dress up and everyone lets their hair down. here are some photos to celebrate. the red flowers are from flame trees and at times you see them next to the jacarandas - a stunning combination. the last photo is a quilt I made a few years ago to celebrate this colour combination.

studio moments

last week I spent six lovely days in my studio (that sounds a bit presumptuous given the mess in there!) printing fabrics, dyeing, playing, dancing to music, discharge dyeing, stamping, stitching and generally having fun creating whatever took my fancy. I plan to work on some art quilts for exhibitions in 2010 and this is the beginning. here are some of the results...

moments in Cornwall

after four weeks of non-stop travelling throughout Europe last year we arrived in the Cornish village of Nelwyn to stay for a whole week - bliss! this was probably the most favourite part of our trip and we rented a beautiful cottage called Cresta House. the cottage is beautifully presented with all the conveniences you need and more. our lovely host Samantha had left a delicious Cornish tea for us on our arrival.....yummy! oh for some clotted cornish cream today! my grandfather was from Cornwall and I guess that's part of the affinity I feel for this part of the UK. we relished the fresh seafood available in the village daily, wandered the tiny streets each day, bought locally at the supermarket, had coffee in the cafes, gazed at St Michael's Mount in the distance past Penzance, talked to the fishermen down on the wharf, strolled the beaches, and watched the comings and goings of the Newlyn fishing fleet from our lounge room and bedroom windows...some days I spent hours just doing that! I have loads of photos from this part of the world and here is just a small taste of them. we hope to return some day soon but in the meantime I can still watch the harbour at Laurence Hartwell's blog Through the gaps! thanks Laurence.
