moments in Brisbane

we are back from our jaunt to Brisbane. wonderful time with family, lots of eating (and drinking!), a visit to the city, the museum of modern art to see the Easton Pearson exhibition (fabulous), some shopping and some sightseeing. my family live near Moreton Bay and we walked along the pier at Shorncliffe and wandered past the beautiful old queenslanders in the area. some have been renovated to their former glory and are great examples of this style of architecture.

cat moments in europe

we will be away for the next few days...heading to brisbane for some family time. meanwhile here are some cats we saw whilst travelling last year...we seemed to see cats wherever we went...from a cat on every corner, street and doorstep in Istanbul to the odd cat in Belgium. so our trip souvenirs took on a distinct cat theme! we even found a cute shop in Prague called the Cat Gallery - with all things for sale featuring cats of course! the sleepy ones are Cornish mousers who had worked all night we were don't disturb them because they are cranky!!

prague moments

around this time last year we were in Prague - or Praha as it's called in the czech republic. wow... what a beautiful city. castles, cathedrals, centuries old architecture everywhere, wonderful shops, cobblestone streets, cafes, restaurants, great food...the list goes on! I cried as we entered St Vitius cathedral...unbelievably beautiful and so lucky to be there. here are some images from our stay. moments I could easily return to.

journal moments

I bought some moleskins when I was in Sydney recently. they have lovely grid paper in them and I have been mostly collaging in them...just bits of paper that come through my house and hands each slip ends, pretty japanese origami paper, messages, shopping lists, product labels, envelopes, leftover scraps os paper from other projects, wine catalogues, napkins, airline tickets, bar codes. I love bar fact I'm going to start a new one just for bar codes! and there's some drawing as well. a great way to store all the bits and pieces I can't bear to throw's a few pages from the one I'm currently using.

xmas is coming!

I made these little xmas decorations for the craft fair and still have some left. they are made from vintage linens, laces and doilies and will look sweet hanging on the xmas tree. I'm going to list some of them in my vintage etsy shop. I'm thinking of changing my things for sale in this shop with a focus more on made from vintage...I have such a collection of vintage linens, laces, ribbons and have been making some garlands/bunting from them as well. what do you think? I need to take some photos of the garlands and then I can post them here as well.

moments of prayer

two posts in one day! more photos from Istanbul last year. prior to entering the mosques for prayer people wash themselves in a particular manner. we were privileged to be allowed to watch this quietly from a distance. amazing to think that these taps and stools have helped people to perform this ritual cleansing for centuries....

travel moments

too long since i last posted...I've been busy lately - craft fair and family matters - but now it's home time and holidays, so hopefully lots of time to blog.

this time last year we were wandering the cobbled streets of Istanbul and savouring the delights of the grand bazaar, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, carpet sellers, spice sellers...and listening to the sounds of the call to prayer five times a day often beginning around 5am. a wondeful city which I long to return to. here are some pictures I took in the grand bazaar....a visual feast.

found art moments

earlier this year I was in Sydney for the NSW Quilt Show and wandering through chinatown (my favourite part of Sydney) found these layered posters....wonderful found art. when I was back just recently I noticed the walls had all been cleaned and there are now signs up prohibiting the displaying of posters on the walls. what a shame.
